The bike path takes us by the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center where a antler arch was constructed.
Ben the Ice Cream man

The weather has been absolutely fabulous! Fairbanks had a streak of mid to upper 80 degree weather! With hot weather comes..... The Ice Cream Man! Oh yes.... complete with a little truck that plays happy music throughout the neighborhoods. Come on now... Twinkle twinkle little star puts a smile on your face doesn't it? Shawn & I were out riding our bikes and we stopped the Ice Cream man as he was passin' by.... Ben was happy to pose for a pic with me! per the Van Halen song..."all my flavors are guaranteed to satis-us-fy .... and if you let me cool you one time, you'll be on my regular stop"!
Briar

I went on a road trip up to Circle. A remote area of Alaska. The scenery was beautiful!

We stopped in at the local establishment for a cold beverage. This place was the local gas station, grocery store, and bar... all in one! The bartender was a hoot! Diane told stories of the "dirty dog mushers", and the Apache Indians that came through ..."those savages" she says with a twinkle in her eye - whatever THat means! She spoke of the time it got to -78 degrees. She said her hair would break off if she were to touch it! I found her hilarious as she used language and terms one just doesn't hear in Michigan! I didn't get a pic of Diane, but I did snap a shot of the building.
Dumpster window box after

Well.... it was bound to happen... I found a 'treasure' at the transfer station! Someone threw out a huge window box. We brought it home, sanded and painted it and now its housing tomato, pepper and radish plants.

Memorial day was beautiful... we took the boat out for a trip down the China river! Along the way we passed a Native fishing camp.

Loves Bridge

If you love Ice Cream you might want to share some with the one you love on the 'Love Bridge' in Pioneer Park. This is a great park, which includes a bike path and a wooden bridge that expands over the China river. Someone spray painted "Loves Bridge" on it. So now Shawn & I refer to it as " the love bridge".
Nacho cheese

The Griz "blew the roof off the Carlson Center" in the last <home> game of the season with a Win against the Seattle Timber-wolves. 85-54 Great game! The players were feisty and the fans were scrappin'. In fact, as I was minding my own business watching the game... the next thing I know nacho cheese and chips come flyin' over my shoulder and spatters right in front of me! ....hitting both my purse and pant leg. The young girl that threw it at the guy for pickin' on her little brother, apologized to me after the game, and stated " I hope I didn't ruin your night". HA it would take More than Nacho cheese to ruin my night with the Griz!
NAPA fire

As I mentioned in an earlier update, Fairbanks is a dry climate with multiple fires burning at any given time. This particular night the local NAPA caught on fire.

Red flag plane

Fairbanks is a Military town. The Fort Wainwright Post and Eielson Air Force base are nearby. They work together on Operation red Flag training prior to deploying to Afghanistan. The planes literally fly about 2000 feet above the house.

In closing I want you all to know I've succumbed to my environment... I surrendered my lovely Victoria's Secret perfume to Garlic juice! Yep you heard me! I tried many remedies including the Burts Bees Herbal insect repellent hoping to repel the ginormous AK mosquitoes... I think they actually liked it! I heard if you incorporate garlic in your diet it will secrete thru your skin and repel the mosquitoes... I must not have eaten enough... so I literally rubbed the garlic juice on my body.... pretty sexy uh! ...when in Rome.... :) I am honing in on my mosquito swatting skills...the trick is to slowly sneak up on them! Trust me - those big guys leave a mark!
